Choose the Life We Want

These words of wisdom teach us how to choose the life we want. The funny thing is we often don’t have the courage to do so. We normally just let life roll on just like “the lazy old son that has nothing to do but roll around heaven all day.”

Some people define insanity as continuing to do the same things that we ordinarily do and expecting a different result. If we want to change our lives, we have to change ourselves. To change ourselves, we have to do things differently.

Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, make a different choice.

make a different choice

I did something different the morning I wrote this which was last Sunday. I woke up around 5:45 and could tell it was going to be difficult getting back to sleep. So I got out of bed, came downstairs, and saw the above image in my inbox. This gave me the idea to write this article.

I also saw an email from Tricycle from Judy Lief that said much the same thing as the quote above if you use a little poetic license:

Facing Impermanence

Change is continuous in spite of our efforts to resist it. We begin to realize that we do not have any way to stop it or to slow it down. The more we try, the more we suffer. But there is a way to let go, to break this cycle of suffering. We can slow down and have a closer look at our experience of it. When we have a look, we begin to realize what we have been doing, and the whole enterprise begins to feel more and more dubious. It becomes more difficult to hide from what in our hearts we know to be true—the fact of impermanence.

Judy Lief, “Letting Go”

Do you see the connection? Things change naturally do to the law of impermanence, but we want them to be the same so we continue to do the same crazy and careless things in hopes of having a different outcome. Don’t you think this is insanity? How will you change your life?
