Cultivating the Mind Brings True Happiness

These words of wisdom from Tricycle Daily Dharma were originally taught by the Buddha, himself. We are taught that only cultivating the mind brings true happiness.

What does it  mean to cultivate the mind?

It means to bring the mind into a calm abiding state through the practice of mindful meditation. It means that we must live in the present moment, for that is all there is. It means that we must learn to accept things just as they are and keep our minds in a state of equanimity.

To do this correctly, we can choose to walk the path of the Buddha and follow in his footsteps. We can choose to follow the Buddha’s Eightfold path to liberation. Then we will experience the ultimate joy, the ultimate peace, the ultimate happiness.

The Single Thing | August 24, 2014

“I don’t envision a single thing that, when
undeveloped, leads to such great harm as the
mind. The mind, when undeveloped, leads to
great harm.”
“I don’t envision a single thing that, when developed,
leads to such great benefit as the mind. The
mind, when developed, leads to great benefit.”

“I don’t envision a single thing that, when
undeveloped and uncultivated, brings about such
suffering and stress as the mind. The mind, when
undeveloped and uncultivated, brings about
suffering and stress.”
“I don’t envision a single thing that, when developed
and cultivated, brings about such happiness as
the mind. The mind, when developed and
cultivated, brings about happiness.”
