Forgiveness Meditation

The meditation practice of forgiveness is essential for continued heath and well-being. Doing so develops loving kindness and compassion.

Our bodies feel considerable stress when we carry judgements, criticisms, negativity, doubts, fears, regrets, resentments, grudges, and impure thoughts towards ourselves and others.

The way to neutralize the stress is to practice forgiveness meditation and work with affirmations.

The following video by Liz Rojek is a forgiveness meditation that you can to regularly. Some of the affirmations therein are,

Everyone is free
From this moment on, I choose to see only the goodness in myself and others.
I choose to accept myself and others unconditionally.
I choose positive thoughts and beliefs.
I choose and act only on thoughts that make me feel good.
I choose to believe in love.
I am sending out loving thoughts and receive loving thoughts in return.
I am now my own best friend.

In order to forgive yourself and forgive others, you may also want to shower these loving kindness blessings on yourself and your loved ones:

May I be at peace.
May my heart remain open.
May I know the beauty and the radiance of my own true nature.
May I be healthy.
May I be free and happy, truly happy.

For others, please replace “I” in the above verses with “you” or “they,” whatever is appropriate.

In the Jewish tradition of my birth, these are the ten days of repentance, which started at sunset on Wednesday night, September 4, and ends on Saturday, September 14 with Yom Kippor – the Day of Atonement. This can be read, the Day of At One Ment!

On Yom Kippor, Jews all over the world repent for their “sins” and ask God for forgiveness.

I think it should be called,  “The Day of Atunement!” Not only do we ask God for forgiveness, but we forgive ourselves and the ones who have caused us harm. Only you can forgive yourself and others!

When we realize the insight of interbeing – the interconnectedness of all things – we know that forgiving ourselves is equivalent to forgiving everyone else as well as the conditions of our lives.

Who in your life do you need to ask for forgiveness from? Who in your life do you need to forgive? Think about these questions while you watch the forgiveness meditation.
