How to Make Someone Happy

This video shows us how to make someone happy. You have heard of random acts of kindness. Now we have people going around in cars giving random compliments. When people hear these, they light up and offer thanks.

Leo Buscaglia, a former professor at the University of Southern California, motivational speaker, and author, said,

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

There is a story from the time of the Buddha about the importance of a smile. It goes like this:

A poor man asked the Buddha,

“Why am I so poor?”

The Buddha said, “You did not learn to give.”

So the poor man said, “But, if I don’t have anything to give?”

The Buddha said, “You have a few things:

The Face, which can give a smile;

The Mouth, you can praise or comfort others;

The Heart, it can open up to others;

The Eyes, they can look at the other with the eyes of compassion;

The Body, which can be used to help others.”

Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh loves to smile and talks about smiling a lot. Here are a few choice quotes from him:

Waking up this morning, I smile. Twenty-four brand new hours are before me. I vow to live fully in each moment and to look at all beings with eyes of compassion.

A tiny bud of a smile on your lips nourishes awareness and calms you. It returns you to the peace you had lost. A smile is the most basic kind of peace work.

When we practice smiling peacefully and calmly, our peace can permeate the entire universe. The source of a true smile is an awakened mind.

Sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy.

Smile, breathe and go slowly.

So you see, it is not so difficult to learn how to make someone happy. All it takes is your sweet smile, your gentle touche, your loving presence, or a nice compliment.
