Maya Angelou – Phenomenal Woman

Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou is my wife’s favorite poem. Just about every time she has an invitation to a birthday party, she has me print out a copy for her.

The poem is about a woman who is phenomenally confident in her ability to turn heads and make people notice her.

It’s not her looks, or how she dresses. It is about how she carries herself and her presence.

Her mysterious self-confidence is hard to identify, and men find her hard to resist.

She says,

I say, ‘It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
The palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.

“It’s in the click of my heals, / The bend of my hair, / The palms of my hands, / The need for my care…”

What do you think of this poem? I hope it will become one of your favorites!

Please share your feelings, thoughts and questions.

Note: This video was first shared on October 29, 2012. I am offering it again in her memory.
