Tea Meditation with Thich Nhat Hanh and Oprah

Once again Oprah interviewed Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) today. This time it was on her OWN TV network on the program called “Super Soul Sunday.”

The program was divided into many segments.

The first segment was about Thay becoming a monk. Thay spoke about his early memories and wanting to become a monk. Oprah asked him to speak on the hardships of being one, and Thay had no problem explaining that it was the life he loved and wanted.

The second segment began with tea meditation with Thich Nhat Hanh and Oprah. In this segment, Thay talked about living happily in the present moment.

OWN TV had this to say, “The practice of tea meditation helps one become fully present in the here and now. Watch as Thich Nhat Hanh guides Oprah through the practice; then, try it for yourself.”

He also spoke about living in exile and his meeting Martin Luther King, who nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The third segment was about deep listening and loving speech. Deep listening is listening with full awareness and compassion. These practices can help us deal with terrorists by understanding their suffering and giving them a chance to open their hearts.

In the final segment, Thay introduced the four mantras for a happy life. The four mantras are:

Darling, I am here for you.

Darling, I know you are there and I am so happy.

Darling, I know you are suffering, that is why I am here for you.

Darling, I suffer. Please help.

Here is how they were expressed on the program.

There are more videos of this interview on the OWN TV network site.

My experience with this interview was deep and lovely. He once again touched my heart and I am exceedingly grateful to know him and to love him. I fondly remembered tea meditation with Thich Nhat Hanh in Plum Village in 2006.

How did you feel when you watched the videos? Were you touched by his compassionate presence? Did you want to learn more about his teachings? I can help. Just share below or make a comment.
