The Four States Of Mind

Here is another great video from the Silva Life System blog. In this video, Vishen Lakhiani, founder of Mindvalley shares his story about how Silva Mind Control helped him start a multimillion business. After telling his story, he talks about the four states of mind.

When his mindset changed, his business exploded. It’s not just about business.

The mindset shift is basically getting in the state of flow. Some people call this, “The zone.” It is not just for athletes, although I often experience this on the tennis courts.

Wikipedia defines flow as

Flow is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does. [Read More…]

Flow is a state of being in balance in which you are happy in the here and now and you have a clear vision of your future.

Flow is one of the four states of mind, and the most desirable.

In the first state of mind, the negative spiral, you are not happy now and you don’t have a vision for your future.

The second state of mind is called the current reality trap. Here, you are happy in the here and in the now, but have no goals for the future. The problem with this state is that you are not growing and contributing to the rest of humanity.

The third state of mind is the state of stress and anxiety. You are not happy in the now, and you do not have a vision of the future. There may be self-esteem issues or uncertainty about attaining your goals. So you are perpetually stressed and have a lot of anxiety.

In the fourth state of mind, the state of flow, you are happy now and you have a great vision of your future. Desire, belief, and expectancy work together to help you manifest your goals.

Vishen goes on to explain the paradox of intention: You must have goals, but your happiness cannot be tied to these goals. you must be happy before you attain them.

Tony Hsieh, founder of Zappos, said, “Notice when flow happens and change your life to make it happen more.” More about this later.

Blisscipline is the act of keeping yourself in a state of flow. See tomorrow’s post for more on this.

I really enjoyed this video. Then I realized that in addition to the Silva Method, which helped me and Vishen so much, many of my guided meditations can help you with your state of flow.
