Enneagram Point 3 - The PerformerPoint Three on the enneagram represents the performer – the person who is so dedicated the task and job to be done that they almost completely forget their feelings. They get angry at anything that gets in their way of accomplishing their objectives. They work efficiently towards their goals and demand hard work from their subordinates. They work hard to maintain an image which other people will admire and appreciate. They want to attract the attention of everyone in their environment, and they aim to please.

The basic problem for a Three is that one must gain love and acceptance through performance, doing, success, and by matching to the image of success and approval. A Three is therefore what they do and perform.

The Three’s attention goes to the many tasks to accomplish, and while focusing on a particular project, and to deceitconverging attention onto a single outfocused goal. They feel that it is important for them to empower themselves to achieve whatever it is that they set as a goal. They tend to discount any failures and reprogram or reframe any bad experience into something positive.

These patterns of attention give rise to a set of preoccupations which are distinctly characteristic of the “Type A” personality – the person who is always on the go. They are totally preoccupied with accomplishing and succeeding. [Read More…]
