Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the brain child of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. He is the founder of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts.

The MBSR program includes mindfulness meditation and Hatha yoga. He defines mindfulness as

“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way;

On purpose,
in the present moment, and
nonjudgmentally.”

The spread of MBSR to more than 200 top medical centers around the world has brought relief of stress and other symptoms to perhaps millions of people in in the last 30 years. It is also offered at hospitals, schools, prisons and in professional sports.

Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn will converse with Dr. Kelly McGonigal in San Francisco on January 9, 2013 at the Herbst Theatre at 7:30 pm. The event is sponsored the California Academy of Sciences and City Arts and Lectures.

Unfortunately, the event has been sold out for over a month. The event is supposed to be live and on public radio.

I wanted to attend this lecture. I failed to get my tickets early enough. I probably will show up at the door.

This promises to be an amazing program. I’ll let you know what I find out!

If you know anyone with tickets to sell or donate, please let me know!
