Voluntary Control Over Involuntary States

Swami Rama of the Himalayas came to the United States in 1969. I met him in the suburbs of Chicago in 1970. He was my first “root” teacher and his teachings have been with me since then.

He was a genuine yogi with extraordinary yogic powers.

Swami Rama was invited to the Menninger Foundation in 1970 to work with psychologists and medical doctors to study his voluntary control over involuntary states.

He would say, “All of the body is in the mind, but not all of the mind is in the body!”

When I knew Swami Rama, I did not know of his remarkable abilities. I just loved his demeanour and the way he spoke.

After moving to California, I once ran into a fellow student of Swami Rama’s. He had stayed longer with Swami Rama than I had. He spoke of his remarkable feats that he personally witnessed.

Have you heard of anyone else who has voluntary control over involuntary states? Please tell me if you do.
