Compassion Media Project

In this very short video, Dr. James Doty and the Dalai Lama explain the Compassion Media Project at The Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University. The value and beneficial effects of compassion on overall health and well-being are significant.

Dr. Doty states that compassion results in great pleasure and decreased levels of stress. It also help to promote the immune system. Compassion is helping another.

The Dalai Lama says, that the more we value of compassion, the more value of central concern for others would be. This has tremendous benefit to the practitioner himself or herself. The compassionate mind brings the mental state more calm.

The Dalai Lama has contributed greatly to this project from his royalties and plans to give more. His translator, , was also very influential in the formation of CCARE.

In other articles, I have offered loving kindness blessings to help develop compassion. Today, I’d like you to try these loving kindness blessings. Practice them first on your self, then on the ones you love the most (your immediate family), then on people you know who are suffering from illness, loneliness, depression, or loss, and finally, all sentient beings.

May you be at peace.
May your heart remain open.
My you know the beauty and the radiance of your own true nature.
May you be healthy.
May you be free and happy, truly happy!

What happened when you practiced these loving kindness blessings? Did you find some difficulties with your loved ones or you extended family? Try practicing forgiveness with them and then repeat the exercise. Please share your experience.
