MBSR And Healing

This video is a Google Talk given by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in 2007 on MBSR and healing. Jon Kabat-Zinn is the found of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

The MBSR program was begun more than thirty years ago and now it is almost a household word!

The material in MBSR is derived from the teachings of the Buddha, but “without the Buddhism.”

Dr.  Kabat-Zinn discussed the medical consequences of stress. He says that meditation is essentially paying attention. It has nothing to do with Buddhism.

Dr. Kabat-Zinn’s object is to transform medicine and develop the science of mind and body medicine.

Dr. Kabat-Zinn talked about how he is involved with the Mind and Life Institute with the Dalai Lama. The meetings are about the nature of mind and the nature of reality and how these different streams of knowledge might actually inform each other.

Mindfulness is “moment to moment non-judgmental awareness that is cultivated by paying attention.”

MBSR is now mainstream. Classes are available in most areas. You should be able to find one near you.

If you have experience with MBSR, please share it. If not, what are your questions?
