Mindfulness Practices For Weight Normalization

Weight normalization is a concept brought to my attention by an old friend. She counsels patients with weight problem, be it obesity or bulimia or anorexia.

Obesity is now an epidemic in this country, as verified in this video from the Center for Disease Control. The CDC states,

…many factors that have contributed to the obesity epidemic, and showcases several community initiatives taking place to prevent and reduce obesity. Obesity is a national epidemic and a major contributor to some of the leading causes of death in the U.S., including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some types of cancer. We need to change our communities into places that strongly support healthy eating and active living… The is no simple solution to the obesity epidemic.

Other research has shown that Weight Watchers is an effect program for controlling weight so long as participants stick to the program.

According to a recent study published in the journal Obesity, people enrolled in the Weight Watchers program for 48 weeks were found more likely to stick with their weight loss goals and experience more weight loss than regularly meeting with doctors. Read more…

Neither the video nor the study provides meditation practices to normalize weight. Yes, they talk about lifestyle changes, like eating more fruits and vegetables and exercising more.  These changes are mostly physical and do not and do not adequately address the mindset of people.
