New Teachings On Dependent Origination By Thich Nhat Hanh

Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh spoke last week on new teachings on dependent origination.

What is dependent origination? Dependent origination describes the chain of causation in the cycle of rebirth.

It was taught by the Buddha, himself as way to transcend suffering and achieve nirvana.

In meditation, we learn about two kinds of truth. One kind of truth is the conventional truth of ordinary life. This is also known as the historical truth. It refers to life as we know it.

Then there is the ultimate truth. This is the truth of nirvana. Knowing this truth, we recognize the nature of interbeing. We understand that, “This is like this because that is like that.” All things are interdependent.

I was really touched by this video. I wrote a companion post on Mother Earth Is Inside Of Us that you can also enjoy.
