The Kingdom of God is Now or Never

This lovely video, with its beautiful lotus flowers and plum blossoms, comes from Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and the nuns of Plum Village. The chant reminds us that the Kingdom of God is now or never!

We may think that the Kingdom of God or the Pure Land of the Buddha is something in the far distant future. This is what we are usually taught. We must die and go to heaven to be in the Kingdom of God.

But Thich Hhat Hanh teaches us that if we are truly present, in the here and in the now, we can touch the wonders of live, in us and around us. This is the Kingdom of God or the Pure Land of the Buddha.

The Kingdom of God or the Pure Land of the Buddha is always available to us, right here and right now. The question is, “Are we available for the Kingdom of God or the Pure Land of the Buddha?”

If you are a Christian, you have been taught that “The Kingdom of God is at hand.” Has anyone ever explained to you just what this means?

If you contemplate the words of Thich Nhat Hanh, you will learn that being present to what is happening here and now is your ticket to the Kingdom of God within you and around you. He explains this quite well in Going Home: Jesus and Buddha as Brothers.

Meditation practices can help you realize more moments of peace and presence. They can train you to live mindfully in the present moment and not get caught up in your worries, anxieties and fears. Won’t you begin practicing today?
