You Are Me and I Am You

This duet by Leona Lewis and Ne-Yo expresses the idea that true love between two people does not exist until both of you can say, “You are me and I am you.”

This statement is well known in the Sufi tradition.

The Sufi tradition is the mystical tradition of Islam.

And the statement, “You are me and I am you,” refers to the Sufi’s relationship to God.

You would never find a Sufi blowing himself up to kill a bunch of people.

You would never find a Sufi saying a negative word about a Christian or a Jew.

Sufi’s are god-loving and people loving people.

They accept others’ view and learn from them.

When I practiced in the Sufi tradition of Hazrat Inayat Khan, Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, and Samuel Lewis, I learned the universal nature of the presence of God.

The dances and chants contained references to all religions and singled out none.
