Who Makes You Suffer?

These words of wisdom from Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh teach us to think about who makes us suffer.

Instead of blaming them, Thay, as his students refer to Thich Nhat Hanh, suggests that they are suffering and asking for help.

If we can provide that help with wisdom and compassion, our suffering will be less.

Thich Nhat Hanh

“When another person makes you suffer, it is because he suffers deeply within himself, and his suffering is spilling over. He does not need punishment; he needs help. That’s the message he is sending.”

– Thich Nhat Hanh

Thay often asks, “What is your suffering and how will you limit it? What is your joy and how will you enhance it?”

Who makes you suffer? Are you able to feel compassion for him or her and recognize their suffering?
