Do You Want To Wake Up?

This lovely video from the I Am Awake project is short and to the point. Instead of “What if I told you to wake up?” please tell me, do you want to wake up?

What does it mean to wake up?

We must wake up to the destruction we are causing to the environment. Just take a look at Three Numbers You Should Know About Global Warming and Is Global Warming Real?

We need to wake up to the devastation of a world committed to mindless consumption and materialism. We think we have unlimited resources. To see this is false, just look around you and see where our oil is coming from. Is there really an unlimited supply? How about drinking water? Fracking is destroying it day by day.

Mindful consumption has been promoted by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh for years. I remember him saying sometime in the late 80’s or early 90s, “If the West stops drinking alcohol by 50%, we could feed the whole world!” This really touched me.

Jacques Fresco has been talking about a resource based economy for even longer. He is in his mid 90’s and is still trying to get this message across. Just take a look at Zeitgeist Resurrected.

The plain fact is that the planet does not need more “successful” people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every shape and form. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these needs have little to do with success as our culture has defined it.

So, are you going to be a peacemaker, healer, restorer, storyteller, and lover of this planet or are you going to stand by and watch everything we’ve built over the millennia be destroyed by mindless consumption?

There are no petitions here. There are no polls here. I’m only asking for you to take action and reclaim your mind and independent thought.
