“Mindfulness is a way of living your life as if it really matters and that involves being in the present moment with open hearted presence and kindness towards yourself” says Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in the video on this page.
Jon Kabat-Zinn is the founder of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program at the University of Massachusetts. This program is now taught all over the world.
He also talks about the wonderful research that is continuing to prove the neurological and physiological benefits of meditation.
We need to bring mindfulness into our lives right now any way we can. Bringing awareness to our bodies can be useful throughout the day – walking, sitting, eating, moving, whatever. Or, we can connect with our breathing.
Jon says, “Happiness is right now in the midst of whatever is happening.”
As Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and his followers sing,
“Happiness is here and now!
I have lost my worries.
No where to go
Nothing to do
No longer in a hurry!”
Mindfulness is moving into medicine, psychology, education, the law, government, which is a very good sign for humanity.
It is time for us to wake up to the awareness of being aware!
How are you using mindfulness in your daily life? Do you have a regular mindfulness practice? Please share.

These books are both quite wonderful. Full Catastrophe Living outlines the MBSR program. Wherever You Go There You Are contains beautiful snippets of wisdom. I think you will enjoy reading them.
