In this article, I show how Radical Remission and the 7 Strategies to Help YOU Survive flow together and provide two points of view about better health, healing and happiness (the 3 H’s)!
I’m presenting these here in order to inspire you to sign up for Dr. Kelly Turner’s new course, RADICAL REMISSION: Applying the 9 Healing Factors Into Your Own Life which will be live tomorrow.
When I gave my talk on the 7 Strategies to Help YOU Survive (then called the Seven Principle of Mindfulness in Healing) at The Club at Harbor Point last September, I began with talking about Kelly’s research and how much I learned from reading her book.
Then I showed a slide similar to this one:
As you can see from this diagram, items 5 (create your own medical team) and 7 (give back) did not appear to be relevant in Kelly’s research.
After her call on March 9, I wrote the following,
My question on the call was did these factors show up in your research, and how important were they?
In Micah’s case as well as mine, the medical team was essential to our recoveries.
Giving back to my community through serving on boards of directors, my weekly mindfulness in healing meditation group, my meditation blog and being involved with two climate change action groups has been extremely valuable to me and have provided me with much joy.
I want to make it clear that these activities didn’t provide a strong reason to live and they were on my mind from the very beginning (see www.yellowstream.org.)
What do you think?
Within the next half hour, she wrote back, “…I would say that “creating your own medical team” falls under “taking control of your health,” and that “giving back” is one way to “increase positive emotions” and/or “embrace social support.”
I was very grateful to get her feedback about this and plan to update the diagram for the next talk I give on the 7 strategies.
To find out which of the 9 Factors of Radical Remission will work best for you, I encourage you to register for Kelly’s RADICAL REMISSION COURSE, which opens tomorrow.
