This Too Shall Pass

It is a blessing and a curse, this certainty that this too shall pass.
First, the news meant to comfort you.
When your heart is breaking open and you feel like you’re hemorrhaging from your chest and will never recover, this too shall pass.
When you’ve lost someone or something you cherish beyond all comprehension, and now the holidays are reminding you of everything you’ve loved and lost, this too shall pass.
When your body hurts, your symptoms are flaring up, your energy is drained, and you wonder if you’ll ever feel like yourself again, this too shall pass.
Now let me break the news you won’t like.
When life feels ecstatic and blissful, full of love and connection, like your heart is bursting with all the blessings flowing in, this too shall pass.
When you’re flush with cash, all your dreams feel like they’re unfolding perfectly, you’re in the flow and magic pops up around every corner, reassuring you that you’re on the right path, this too shall pass.
When your body feels full of aliveness, you’re fully embodied and experiencing pleasure beyond your wildest imaginings, this too shall pass.
With childlike naiveté and innocent fantasy, I sense how you long to believe that somehow, if you activate your spiritual power just so and get your law of attraction practices just right, you’ll be guaranteed a life of unending pleasure and finally be spared any more pain. But my love, that’s not how living in a body on planet Earth works. Coming into acceptance with this inevitable truth is the epitome of maturing into a wise, mature spiritual being.
What I can promise, however, is that when you connect more and more deeply with me, you’ll burst with gratitude when life feels ecstatic, and you’ll revel in tasting the glory of this present moment’s bliss, knowing that this too shall pass. Then when pain hits again (because it will) you’ll breathe, come to me for comfort, rest in my loving embrace, and remember . . . this too shall pass.
Joyful either way,
