The Ancient Practice Of Awakening Your Heart with Mindful Breathing

I was surprised to receive an email from Omvana, a product of Mindvalley about the ancient practice of awakening your heart with mindful breathing. The video is from the public talk in Vancouver, Canada in August 14, 2011, after the retreat at the University of British Columbia called Awakening the Heart.

I attended the retreat, but missed the public talk because I thought my flight home was on August 13. It turned out it was on August 14, but I had changed it for the earlier flight on the morning of the 14th.

The retreat was a little difficult for me because I had failed to obtain a brown jacked that members of the Order of Interbeing are required to wear at retreats and they didn’t have at the retreat to sell. Luckily, someone had an extra jacket that I was able to borrow.

I wrote this in the comments on the Facebook page for the Omvana article:

Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (know as Thay by his followers) has been my teacher for 30+ years. I have spent time with him at his home in Plum Village, on retreats in the United States and Canada, and in public talks.

I have listened to hundreds of hours of his dharma talks and read so many of his books. I am a member of his Order of Interbeing which he began in 1966 with only six members.

I have been teaching mindfulness of breathing at the Pine Street Clinic in San Anselmo, California in a sangha (group of practitioners) called Mindfulness in Healing for almost six years. My website, Meditation Practices contains many quotes, videos, and stories by Thay as well as guided meditation for awareness of breathing.
