A few years back, I could not get enough of Eckhart Tolle. I went to my local library and rented every audio recording they had of Eckhardt Tolle. One of the most influential books of his is The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment.
This video is on acceptance and surrender with Eckhart Tolle. He reads from Chapter 6. He says,
Always say “yes” to the present moment. What could be more futile, more insane, than to create inner resistance to what already is? What could be more insane than to oppose life itself, which is now and always now? Surrender to what is. Say “yes” to life — and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.
“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.”
And Thich Nhat Hanh says,
To dwell in the here and now does not mean you never think about the past or responsibly plan for the future. The idea is simply not to allow yourself to get lost in regrets about the past or worries about the future. If you are firmly grounded in the present moment, the past can be an object of inquiry, the object of your mindfulness and concentration. You can attain many insights by looking into the past. But you are still grounded in the present moment.
So what do you do to accept life just as it is and surrender to what is happening in the present moment? Are you having a daily meditation practice to develop these qualities of acceptance and surrender? Please let us know!
