I’ve been watching Oprah talk about TM (Transcendental Meditation) on her OWN TV network and Oprah thinks Transcendental Meditation Practices are Amazing! She was in Fairfield, a small town in Iowa.
The women Transcendental Meditation practices take place in a large dome. The evening practices start precisely at 5:00 PM and a minimum of four hundred women show up each day. They leave their work and their business to take part in the Transcendental Meditation practices and many have been doing this since the seventies!
Pundits (mostly young men from India) come over to participate in Transcendental Meditation practices in a group of about 1,000 members. These men study their traditional texts and meditate and chant for hours. Oprah was the first to film their activities.
The goal of Transcendental Meditation practices is to bring world peace.
For more information, please see this article in the Chicago Sun-Times. You can also visit The Transcendental Meditation Program web site for more information about TM.
Did you know that Oprah also talked with my teacher, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh? You can read about it here.
I have to tell you that watching the program a few minutes ago was truly a moving experience for me. Since I have a solid meditation practice of my own, I felt part of their efforts. But this is a story for a later time.
