This Ted Talk follows on the heals of my first encounter with romantic love. See The Bliss of Awakening – Adyashanti Warning, where I tell the story.
Helen Fisher says, “Love is in us, it’s deeply embedded in the brain, our challenge is to understand each other.”
She does fMRI research on the brain in love.
We all know love when we feel it. Just like the addiction to the bliss of awakening, we become addicted to the feeling of being in love.
When we get older, we learn to feel deep love for our children, our parents, and our friends. This kind of love is also wonderful.
She read a poem by an anonymous Southern Alaskan Indian in 1896:
Fire runs through my body with the pain of loving you
Pain runs through my body with the fires of my love for you
Pain, like a boil about to burst, with my love for you
Consumed by fire with my love for you
I remember what you said to me
I am thinking of your love for me
I am torn by your love for me
Pain and more pain
Where are you going with my love?
I’m told you will go from here
I’m told you will leave me her
My body is numb with grief
Remember what I said My love
Good bye, my love, good bye.
In this video, we learn about the brain in love. We all have a need for romantic love. Watch the video to see why.
