Most people have the mistaken idea that Buddhism is all about suffering. In actual fact, he once taught, “I teach only suffering and the end of suffering.” In reality, life consists of suffering, disappointment, unsatisfactoriness and unease. Some “suffering” is unavoidable such as old age, sickness and death. However, we are accustomed to adding a lot of pain and suffer to many of our experiences. This is often caused by our reactions to life experiences.
So what is our suffering? We suffer when we don’t get what we want. We suffer when we get what we don’t want. Why do we get caught up in “If only…” mind? When we continue to judge our experience and compare it to others we are lost and caught in the trance of unworthiness.
