In these words of wisdom, Nisargadatta Maharaj tells us to “Go for it resolutely.” What is he talking about?
He is talking about self-realization which means that you no longer identify completely with yourself! You realize the insight of interbeing and identify with all life and everything that is. Your recognize the interconnectedness of all life forms and feelings of unconditional love flow out of you with each exhalation of your out breath. When you breath in, you breath in all of the life that has existed on the planet since the earth was formed 4.6 billion years ago.
When you know beyond all doubting that the same life flows through all that is and you are that life, you will love all naturally and spontaneously. When you realize the depth and fullness of your love of yourself, you know that every living being and the entire universe are included in your affection. But when you look at anything as separate from you, you cannot love it for you are afraid of it. Alienation causes fear, and fear deepens alienation. It is a vicious circle. Only self-realization can break it. Go for it resolutely.
–Nisargadatta Maharaj
The insight of interbeing is not new to readers of these pages. On April 23, 2012, in Meditation Practices to Save Our Planet, we reported that Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh told The Economist,
The Five Mindfulness Trainings are a kind of lifestyle born from a vision called “interbeing”: everything is connected to everything else. Your happiness and the happiness of other species “interare”. If you are healthy and happy then other forms of life can profit from you. If you are sick and suffer then other species will have to suffer with you and that insight of interbeing will help you to see that you are linked to everything else. To protect yourself you have to protect nature and every other species. That insight of interbeing will help you to remove discrimination, fear and anger and make you feel better in yourself.
–Thich Nhat Hanh
Isn’t it time that we all go for it? Isn’t it time that we all take on the mindfulness training of mindful consumption and realize our true nature of interbeing?
