Mindfulness Meditation is Now Mainstream

Mindfulness meditation is now mainstream. What began as a small movement in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s has reached a global community. YouTube has many videos from many people including Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Jack Kornfield, and many more including The Honest Guys.

Here is what they had to say about this video:

This mindfulness meditation becomes a luxurious indulgence in pleasure, as we learn to live in the moment while enjoying our favorite chocolate. By being wholly present through the experience we can appreciate how mindfulness can be applied to all situations.

In his memorable classic, The Miracle of Mindfulness, Thay, as Thich Nhat Hanh is affectionatly called, writes,

“Feelings, whether of compassion or irritation, should be welcomed, recognized, and treated on an absolutely equal basis; because both are ourselves. The tangerine I am eating is me. The mustard greens I am planting are me. I plant with all my heart and mind. I clean this teapot with the kind of attention I would have were I giving the baby Buddha or Jesus a bath. Nothing should be treated more carefully than anything else. In mindfulness, compassion, irritation, mustard green plant, and teapot are all sacred.”

~ Thích Nhất Hạnh, The Miracle of Mindfulness: An Introduction to the Practice of Meditation

Thay is telling us that everything is interconnected and sacred at the same time. This is the insight of interbeing.

When are you going to begin a daily mindfulness meditation practice? It could save your life as it did mine.
