This quote is from Sharon Salzberg, a renowned teacher of vipassana meditation and co-founder of the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies with Joseph Goldstein.
She is especially known for her teachings on loving kindness meditation.
Mindfulness helps us get better at seeing the difference between what’s happening and the stories we tell ourselves about what’s happening, stories that get in the way of direct experience. Often such stories treat a fleeting state of mind as if it were our entire and permanent self.
— Sharon Salzberg
Salzberg is scheduled to teach Freedom and its Myriad Joys with Roshi Joan Halifax and Gretta Ronningen at the Upaya Zen near Santa Fe, New Mexico on July 12-14, 2013.
I wish I could be there!
The announcement for the Upaya Zen Center has this quote from the Buddha:
“Just as there is only one taste in the ocean-the taste of salt-so in Buddhism there is only one taste. The taste of Freedom.”
This is one of the books I listen to often. The teachings on loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity have been a mainstay of my daily practices for years.
Enjoy!
