A few days ago, I received this email from Dr. Sara Gottfried. She is a board certified gynecologist who trained at Harvard University. She is the best selling author of The Hormone Cure, which has received rave reviews.
She is my kind of doctor because she believes in Ayurveda, integrative medicine, and yoga to cultivate vitality.
This is what she sent:
I’m board certified in everything that can go wrong with the female body.
But sometimes we forget just how right the body can be.
I’m also superbly trained to administer complicated drugs and prescriptions.
Yet I’ve found that food works better.
That’s right. And Hippocrates agrees: “Let food be thy medicine, and medicine thy food.”
Amen, Hippocrates. Nutrient dense foods make you feel glowy and loving, and keep you away from the doctor.
Today’s rockin’ tip is to start a revolution with your grocery cart.
Eat these:
- Kale, chard, really… anything green that grows from the ground!
- Avocados
- Coconut milk (next time, I’ll send you my favorite shake recipe)
- Cacao nibs
- Sweet potatoes (but if you’re trying to lose weight, easy there!)
- Wild caught fish, like Alaskan salmon
Not these:
- Pizza
- Pasta
- Pastries
- Pretzels
- Potatoes
- Processed foods of any type
Sistah, those bad “P” foods are robbing you of mojo. You deserve better. I just can’t let you do that to yourself anymore. Swap those “P” foods for the nutrient dense ones, and watch the innate intelligence of your body unfold.
Best,
Dr. Sara
P.S.: Give up those health-robbing “P” foods and you may find you can give up another “P”—Pills! I’ve personally seen many so-called “chronic” conditions improved if not reversed when people make good, healthy food the centerpiece of their diet. Try it and see for yourself (of course, you should always consult your doctor before going off any medication).
I would add one more “P” to the list – Palm oil – anything made with it. Palm oil has become such a big business these days and is causing havoc with the destruction of the rainforest in Indonesia and the carbon dioxide levels world wide. The rainforest is being cut down to allow the planting of palm trees for its oil. Animals are being displaced and their habitats are being destroyed.
The greedy interests of businessmen and politicians in Indonesia and in Sunnyvale, California have recently been reported by none other than Harrison Ford in a new TV series on Showtime called Years of Living Dangerously. You can watch the premier of Years of Living Dangerously, even if you don’t have Showtime here.
